Tips for Home Protection Against Vandalism & Hurricanes in Mexico

Do not rely solely on the main entrance to communal condos to provide adequate security for your personal condo. Systems fail, security guards take breaks, and people can mistakenly leave locked gates open. Take responsibility for protecting your family and belongings into your own hands.

  • Ensure entrance halls have functioning bright, automatic lighting
  • Make certain main door to your condo has at least two locks
  • Use entrance doors with three hinges for added strength and security
  • Utilize modern double glazed glass for windows to offer added strength and security & cover with proper hurricane shutter necessary for adequate protection for the allotted space
  • Don’t be tempted to leave windows open because you think your condo complex will be more secure
  • Avoid shared post in communal entrance halls – post on display can give away a lot of information about home owners
  • Ensure entrance doors have ‘peep holes’ fitted to view people knocking on the door
  • If yours is a ground floor condo, utilize black out curtains and/or European Roll-down Hurricane Blinds to unable people to see inside
  • If communal recycling bins are provided, ensure all paper waste is shredded before binned to avoid identity theft
  • Fit a burglar alarm, even if you have a pet – alarms can be programmed so that pets do not activate them
